More Roadtrips

After we left College Station, we spent another week on the road touring the Hill Country and South Texas/Mexico. We had a great time, but were happy to get back to Hillje and take a rest from the car (and car seat).

We started off our trip in Llano where my great aunt and uncle were kind enough to let us stay at their ranch house. We toured the Longhorn Cavern in Burnett and the Exotic Wildlife Ranch in Johnson City. Trenton enjoyed both places but really liked playing with the deer at the wildlife ranch. He also thought it was pretty cool to ride in a trailer pulled by a tractor!

On our way down to Boerne, we stopped in Fredericksburg to walk around their downtown area. We also stopped at a restaurant for lunch where Jarrod and I ate our first ever antelope burger! It was pretty tasty! After lunch we headed to Luckenbach. Trenton thought that the concert in the post office/general store/bar was great!

In Boerne we toured The Cave Without a Name. We were lucky enough to be on a tour with a group of about twenty-five 9-12 year old on a field trip!!! The cave was beautiful, but I think both Jarrod and I were ready to pull our hair out by the time the tour was finished! We also walked around Boerne's downtown area and went out for a special dinner for my 26th birthday.

Our next stop was San Antonio to meet Paxton, Tawny, Channing, and Jaxson at the zoo. Paxton and Jarrod grew up together in Farmersville. We had originally planned on visiting Sea World, but they are only open on the weekends during the fall. Sea World would have probably been a lot cooler on a 96-degree day than the zoo was! The kids didn't last too long there. After eating at Alamo Cafe for lunch, we headed down to Paxton and Tawny's beautiful new home in Pleasanton where we spent the night.

Next we headed down to the valley to visit my brother Bradley in Mission. Bradley took us across the border at Progresso. We had a blast looking around all the little shops and eating yummy Mexican food!

Texas Roadtrip

The Smiths Travel to Aggieland

We have been a family on a road trip! We left Yorktown on Monday, October 5th to head out to Texas. We got all the way to the Atlanta area the first day and spent the night with some of my cousins. It was great to catch up with family that we hadn't seen in almost a year! The next day we did a marathon drive. We had planned on spending the whole week driving and stopping to do sightseeing along the way. Plans changed, and we drove all the way to my parents house in Hillje on Tuesday. We got in a little after midnight.

We spent a few days around Hillje, and headed on to College Station on Friday. A whole group of my friends from college were getting together for the A&M football game. Friday night we had an Aggie baby shower for some friends at the best B-B-Q joint in town. We woke up early Saturday morning to tailgate for the 11:30am game. Since a ticket for Trenton cost the same amount as an adult ticket, we decided that he and Jarrod would just tailgate during the game. My friend Tracy's parents were also in College Station for the weekend. They decided that they would rather tailgate the whole game than go in to their seats, so they gave Jarrod and Trenton their tickets! Once we all got in the gate, Jarrod and Trenton were able to sit with our group. It was a little cooler than expected, and the wind was blowing pretty hard up at our seats (the second row from the top on the alumni side). The weatherman had told everyone that the sun was going to come out and it was going to warm up to the mid-70s, but it never got out of the 50s. The game ended too soon for the Ags to come out with a win. It was definitely a better game than we watched on TV the week before though! We had a great time, and we hope to get to another Aggie game next year.

Belmont Pumpkin Farm

We took a break from packing from our trip to take a drive up to Matthews County to the Belmont Pumpkin Farm. We met up with our friends Greg and Amy and their kiddos. Although it didn't feel too much like fall today, the kids had some great fall fun! The farm had a little play area set up for the kids, a kids maze, an adult maze, some farm animals, hayrides, pumpkin picking, pumpkin painting, face painting, and scarecrow making. We had a great time and can't wait to go back next fall!
