I was browsing Pinterest earlier today, and came across a wonderful idea of using baking soda and colored vinegar to make mini eruptions on a cookie sheet.
This was great because I had everything we needed on hand (baking soda, vinegar, food coloring, cookie sheet, and a medicine dropper), and it hardly took any prep work.
The kids loved watching the bubbling!
Charlotte even got in on the action with a little help from Mommy in filling the medicine dropper.
It didn’t take Trenton long at all to figure out how to use the medicine dropper all on his own.
The colored vinegar made some really neat designs in the baking soda!
Once we finished dropping all of our vinegar onto the baking soda, Trenton told me, “Now put in oven and then I eat it all up in my tummy!”. Ha! Like my picky eater would have even tasted it! I had to explain to Trenton that it was just for fun and it wasn’t food.
He might have gotten the idea that we were going to eat this colorful creation from his little sister. You might be able to see where her fingers went into the baking soda on the bottom right side of the picture above. She tasted it once and then went back for more! Yuck!
What a fun, quick, and easy activity! It was also a good activity for fine motor skills, and when the kids are a bit older will be a good science lesson. We can’t wait to do this one again!
