Cherry Picking

What better way to spend a nice summer day than to go cherry picking?

We ventured up to Gilroy yesterday to meet some friends for cherry picking at Buckley Cherries.  This was the first weekend of the season, so the orchard was pretty crowded.

If you remember from our strawberry picking experience, Trenton wasn’t very good at meeting his picking goal.  For strawberry picking, he set his goal at picking 100 berries, and I’m not sure if he even picked one by himself.  He lowered his goal for cherries down to 10.  I think that Trenton at least doubled his goal.  Even though he wanted no part in eating the cherries once he found out that there was a seed to spit out, he loved picking them!

Charlotte picked a few cherries on her own, but for the most part, she kept track of our bucket and made sure all of the cherries made it in there.

It wasn’t long before it was lunch time.  What better time to try to take family pictures than when you have hungry kids?

Do you see me holding 60+ pounds of kids and Jarrod holding a backpack and a cherry?  And I used to think that 50-pound sacks of cattle feed were heavy!  Ha!

We had one kid being cooperative for pictures and another one that wanted nothing to do with it.  So we went with what we had.

But you can bet that when the “I’m too hungry to take pictures” child found the tractors while Daddy paid for our cherries, he forgot all about that hungriness!

We settled in for a nice picnic lunch under the cherry trees out front, and enjoyed time with friends.  Now the girl that before this weekend had only ever eaten cherries out of cans, has to figure out what to do with 2 1/2 pounds of fresh cherries!

Oooh! Looks like a fun & delicious way to spend the day! I better add that to my family's bucket list before we move away from the area!

Cheers,
Kristina

Oh my gosh. LOVE Charlotte's dress and hat! What great pictures you took of her! Looks like fun. I'm eager to hear what you end up doing with the cherries. :)

I've never been cherry picking before, I would probably eat my weight in cherries before we left!
Also adorable coordinating of your daughter's outfit!
