Trenton has been talking about wanting to take a Christmas train for months.
So, today we drove up to Santa Cruz to take their newest train, the Train to Christmas Town.
Now we’ve taken a lot of train rides since we’ve lived here, but this one was by far the most fun.
After boarding the train, we were entertained by elves singing and dancing up and down the aisle.
Then we were read the book Train to Christmas Town.
Hot chocolate and cookies were handed out to enjoy while we listened to the story.
Once the story was over, we were greeted by some of the characters from the book!
I was totally expecting Charlotte to freak out. She has never warmed up to Santa, and she wasn’t very lovey dovey with the characters at Disneyland. And come on now, that cat is just a wee bit on the creepy side with those eyes.
This is not what I was expecting.
She LOVED them! Not enough to give them hugs or anything, but all of the characters (the cat, a polar bear, and a squirrel) got high fives, and she watched them all the way down the aisle.
The train stopped at Christmas Town, but we didn’t get off the train. But someone must have gotten on the train before we turned around to go back to Santa Cruz.
Charlotte immediately hopped into my lap and buried her head in my shoulder.
Santa didn’t come onboard empty handed. Every child got a their own copy of the Train to Christmas Town book and a candy cane.
While Santa went to meet all of the other children on the train, the conductor and Charlotte looked through her book together.
Let me tell you, we had the best seats on the train. Row A, right up front. There was space behind the seats that Jarrod and Charlotte were in where the elves and the conductor would hang out when they weren’t busy. That gave our kids a lot of extra time with the conductor. Trenton had tons of questions for him, and Charlotte thought he was so nice for reading her book to her. She even added Conductor Thomas to her prayer list tonight!
By the time Santa made his way back down to our end of the coach car, Charlotte had somehow overcome her Santa fear and sat on his lap. There was no freak out. She was actually happy!
Thank you Train to Christmas Town for this amazing experience. We had a wonderful time, and hope to visit you again next year!
