Spring Vacation Day One: Blastoff!

We were up and ready to start our vacation bright and early this morning.  The kids woke up totally excited that today was the big day!  Charlotte was so excited in fact that she didn’t want to eat breakfast.

Note to parents: If your child takes a medication that can upset an empty stomach, make sure she eats even if she doesn’t want to.

We were less than 5 miles from our house when Charlotte threw up everywhere!

Luckily we were close to home.  We turned around and went back home to switch out car seats, get Charlotte changed and cleaned up, and get her a snack.

We got back on the road again and Charlotte was good to go!

The kids didn’t know where we were going.  We were planning to leave for San Diego tomorrow, but a few days ago, Jarrod and I decided to leave a day early and stop in Los Angeles to visit the California Science Center.

If you remember our family space themed Halloween costumes or Trenton’s outer space birthday party, then you can imagine how excited our little space cadets were to see this!

Endeavour

But being excited doesn’t always transfer to the pictures….

Seeing the Endeavour was so neat!  We got to walk all around the shuttle looking at the outside, and there were also some Endeavour exhibits inside the museum too.  There was also a film that we got to see showing Endeavour piggybacking its way to Los Angeles and then being pulled from the airport hangar to the science center.  It was pretty much the coolest museum film I’ve ever seen.

The Endeavour wasn’t the only space exhibit to see.  Trenton has had a lot of questions lately about space capsules, how they worked, and how they were different from the more modern shuttles.  He was excited to see not one, but three at the science center!  Oh, and the fact that a monkey went up in on of the ones on display?  Just icing on the cake.

Other favorite areas of the science center included the water flow table and the Poles room.  Who knew that a huge wall of ice could keep the attention of a couple of preschoolers for so long?

After leaving the science center, it was just about time to find something to eat for dinner.  And of course we had to find a place where we could celebrate National Chip and Dip Day!

Then it was off to our hotel for the night.  It’s an old lima bean silo!

Tomorrow we are off to spend the rest of our vacation in San Diego!
