I started my weekend off right with a fun girls night in Carmel Valley.
Okay wait – if I’m going to be completely honest, my good weekend started off with a greasy dinner from McDonald’s. (I hope my doctor doesn’t read my blog!)
Now on to girls night. One of my friends and I went down to Valley Greens Gallery in Carmel Valley to meet up with some other members of the officer spouses club for a painting night.
I’ve know a lot of people who have done painting event, and I’ve always thought that they looked like fun, but I was a little nervous. I’m more of a painting in the lines type person than one that can start with a blank canvas.
But I surprised myself, and did a halfway decent job. And had fun while doing it!
And now I have a picture of California poppies to remember our time here.
Saturday, Jarrod, the kids, and I ventured up to Watsonville (check your strawberry cartons – many come from Watsonville!) to pick strawberries at Redman House Farmstand.
The farm grows their own produce to sell at their stand, and isn’t a designated u-pick farm. But, at the end of the season, they open up their field of organic strawberries a couple of weekends for the public to pick.
After checking in and getting our buckets weighed at the farmstand, we walked out to the field where Daddy gave the kids lessons on the correct way to pick the berries.
Then it was time to get pickin’!
We wound up picking over 15 pounds of strawberries.
And all those berries make us happy, happy, happy!
Yesterday was spent at church, hitting up a garage sale and snagging a rocking chair that I plan on redoing for the nursery, some gym time, and doing the first bit of cooking with our strawberries – Strawberry Margarita Jam. Because hey, if I can’t drink a margarita, I can at least have one in jam form where the alcohol has been cooked off! We haven’t tried it yet, but I’ll let y’all know if it turns out good!
