Weekend Review: Mr. Sun, Sun, Mr. Golden Sun

We’ve been really lucky this winter and have had a LOT of sunny days.  After a couple of weeks of rainy weather, the sun came back out this weekend.  And now that Evelyn is a little bit older, we got out to take advantage of it.

All you people buried in snow, try not to be jealous!

After my 6-week post-partum checkup (still 7 pounds up – looks like I need to lay off the valentine’s candy!), and picking the kids up from school, we swung by NPS to pick Jarrod up early.  He didn’t want to miss out on the nice weather either!  We came home, ate some lunch, and then headed out to Frog Pond Wetland Preserve for a little hike/nature walk.

The kids loved watching the ducks.  Trenton has decided that he wants to go back and take duck calls to practice so that he can go hunting with Daddy when he’s a little older.  The 3/4 mile loop was perfect for letting the kids get some energy out, soaking up the sun, learning a few fun nature facts, and spending quality time together as a family.

Evelyn wasn’t as impressed with hiking.  She slept through her first hike.

Saturday we split up.  Evelyn and I went up to Santa Cruz to tour the mission with a group from church, and Jarrod took the big kids to a birthday party.

The only original building remaining from California’s twelfth mission is an adobe built in the early 1800s.

The current church was rebuilt in 1857 after two earthquakes destroyed the original 1793 building.

I had a great time with my baby girl and friends, and Trenton and Charlotte had a fun time at their friend’s birthday party with Daddy.

Sunday was a pretty low key day.  Other than church, we stuck around the house doing chores and playing outside soaking up more sun.

Thanks for a great weekend, Mr. Sun.  Feel free to stick around for a while!

Three Little Valentines

The first little Valentine heads off to school.

The second little Valentine wants to go to the pool.

(But there was poop in the pool so we couldn’t swim.)

And the third little Valentine thinks hanging out with older siblings (who have really cheesy smiles) is cool!

Happy Valentine’s Day!  I hope you all have a great weekend!

Watch Me Grow: Evelyn is One Month Old

DSC_0545_1 copy

Evelyn hit the one month milestone earlier this week.  Even though it’s only been a month since we welcomed Evelyn into this world, I feel like she’s always been a part of our family.  I feel so blessed to have her here that I could just snuggle her and look down at her all day.

At night though, I would like some sleep.

I have an over supply of milk.  Which sounds like a good thing.  But in reality, it’s not.  Evelyn fills up on lower fat foremilk before ever getting to the higher fat content hindmilk.  So she doesn’t stay full very long.  Also, since my milk comes out so fast, Evelyn gulps and chokes causing her to take in a lot of air.  Air in a baby’s tummy = gas and colic.  I’m working on getting my supply lower, and Evelyn’s pediatrician has recommended that she start taking colic probiotic drops.  Hopefully with trying to tackle this from both ends, we can get this figured out and I can have a happy baby.

Otherwise Evelyn is doing great.  She loves her big brother and sister.  Trenton and Charlotte come barreling into my bedroom every morning after they eat breakfast (about the same time I finish feeding Evelyn).  They talk to Evelyn about 100 miles a minute, and Evelyn really has started trying to keep up with both of them.  It’s so fun to watch.

Evelyn seems to be a bit of an overachiever.  The day she turned one month old, I had her on the floor playing.  After a while on her back, I flipped Evelyn over to her tummy.  She played for a bit on her tummy, and the next thing I knew, she had rolled over to her back!  I thought it was a fluke, but she did the same thing later that day!  Now if she could just be an overachiever in the sleep department…

Weight: 8 pounds, 4 ounces (45th percentile)
Height: 20 1/2 inches (25th percentile)
Eating: Every 3-4 hours during the day and every 2-3 hours at night.
Sleeping: By the time I feed her and get her back down, she normally sleeps about 1-1/2 to 2 1/2 hours at a time during the night.
Diapers: Size Newborn
Clothes: Newborn, but it looks like we’ll be moving to 0-3 month clothes soon.

I just love watching this little girl grow and change every day. I can’t wait to see what she does in her second month!

Introducing Herbie

Let me take some time to introduce you to my new friend.

Herbie the Roomba.

My push present (or more like my “I got cut wide open and had a baby pulled out of me” gift).

What?, you ask.  No diamonds?

Nope.  With three kids, I am all about practicality.

And Herbie fits the bill.

Before Christmas two of my friends told me about their new roombas.  They raved about not having to sweep/vacuum any more.

So I told Jarrod that a roomba was what I wanted for birthing his third child.

I finally got around to researching roombas over the weekend to figure out which model I wanted.  And then yesterday afternoon, me and my pretty little 20% off Bed Bath & Beyond coupon went and picked out Herbie.

And I love him!  I’m not having to sweep up crumbs all the dang time now (note: why do my kids have be such big fans of crackers – the biggest crumb maker in the pantry).  That alone makes him worth his weight in gold for this busy mom.  And Herbie does a great job cleaning.  In fact, I’m kind of grossed out by all of the stuff that he sweeps/vacuums up.  Ick!

Now if someone can invent a robot that can vacuum the stairs, I’d be set!
