“Mama” was the first word uttered by both Trenton and Charlotte.
I’d been working with Evelyn, trying to make it three for three, but Jarrod had been working just as hard gunning for his first time winning the battle of the first word.
Well, the third time was a charm for Jarrod. Evelyn loves saying “Dada”. She says it to Jarrod, sometimes mistakes men on TV for her Daddy, and enjoys saying it over and over in church - even at Friday Mass with the school kids when Jarrod’s not with us. I’m convinced that she’s praying…
She also thinks it’s hilarious when I try to get her to say “mama” and she follows with a defiant “dada”. Yep, girl’s got jokes already…
In all honesty, I really wasn’t surprised that Jarrod won this go-round. This girl has her daddy wrapped around her little finger and has from day one.
So am I upset that she didn’t say my name first? Not really. It’s kind of nice not to be the one that she’s calling out for at 4:00 in the morning because the time change has her all messed up and she thinks it’s time to wake up and play!
But – she better learn to say my name before she says the dog’s!
