As some of you already know, Trenton went to the ER last night with what we found out was croup.
I woke Trenton up yesterday morning in Tennessee (I’ll do a post on our terrific Thanksgiving in the Smokies once I finish sorting through pictures), finding him laying under two fans with no blankets on him (he kicks his covers off almost every night). So when he had a cough, I really didn’t think much of it. Even though it sounded like a barking seal.
Trenton coughed off and on the whole way home, but didn’t complain too much about it bothering him.
Once we got home, I got the kids dinner, and then threw them all in the bathtub. Once Trenton got out of the bathtub, I could tell he was feeling really bad. I got him dried off, took his temp (101.5), gave him some Motrin, and put him in bed. I made a bottle for Evelyn and got her to sleep, and when I came out of her room, Trenton was already asleep. It was only a little after 7:00.
A little while later, I heard Trenton coughing really bad and went to check on him. He was sitting up in bed trying to catch his breath. After a couple more bad bouts of coughing that left him breathless, Jarrod took Trenton into the ER.
Trenton was easily diagnosed at the ER with croup. He was given a breathing treatment and some medicine, and then went to watch a movie in the “movie room” for the two hours that he had to be observed after the breathing treatment.
Once Trenton and Jarrod got home, Trenton slept soundly through the night and woke up feeling a lot better this morning. I went and picked up Trenton’s prescription, and he, Bailey, and I took a walk around the neighborhood so that Trenton could spend some time breathing in the cold air to help his airways. The doctor told Trenton to expect to feel better during the day but still have a couple more rough nights. So I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the rough nights pass quickly!
