I ran track and cross-country in high school. But my races were never more than 2 miles in distance. We had to run longer distances in practice, and I was not a fan of anything over 2 miles.
But that didn’t stop me from signing up for the Glo Run 5K. I had every intention of actually training for the race. But then winter lingered. And lingered. And lingered. So I hadn’t done any actual running prior to the race since the fall.
I wasn’t the only one from our group in the same boat, so a few of us planned to walk/jog the race together.
We got to the fairgrounds last night, got our glo gear, and were ready to go. Tutus and all!
Once we our wave got started (we were in the first wave of racers), we jogged a little, walked a little, then decided to jog again. A friend and I were next to each other, and when we looked back, we didn’t see anyone else from our little walk/jog group with us anymore. So we just decided to keep running.
We stopped for a water break and a photo op, but for the most part we ran. Probably about 2 miles out of the 3ish. For not having run in quite some time, I was proud of myself. We forgot to start our GPS trackers, and there was no official race timer, so we have no clue what our times were, but our whole group had such a fun time!
I have another race coming up next month – The Dirty Girl 5K – a mud run with obstacles, and I can’t wait! I may have to find some more races too!
